Dave from the Honest Audiophile reviewed the Standard Burson Playmate 3 on YouTube and asked whether it is better as a DAC/preamp than as a headphone amp.
Dave describes a musical sound with slight warmth, deep bass and lush mids.
He found it fussy with some headphones: he heard hiss with sensitive IEMs, and it struggled with his 300 ohm dynamic headphones. He also notes that it runs hot, as Class A designs do.
Dave preferred the Playmate 3 as a DAC and preamp, and compared it with the xDuoo XA-02 and the Mytek Liberty DAC II.
He found it great for PS5 gaming.
