Writing for audioreviews.org, Biodegraded compared three Burson op amps, the V6 Vivid, V7 Vivid and V7 Classic, in a non-Burson amplifier: a Pass DIY WHAMMY headphone amp, using an OPA1612A as his reference. Headphones were modified Yamaha YH-2 planars and the HD 6XX.
Note: the V7 Vivid reviewed here is the op amp now sold as the V7 Vivid Pro.
V7 Vivid vs V6 Vivid
Compared with the V6 Vivid, he heard the V7 Vivid bring back lower-midrange warmth, with more dynamics, cleaner cymbals and faster transients. He noted the highs may be slightly elevated.
V7 Classic
He found the V7 Classic much smoother and warmer, with less detail and separation in his system: “more romantic”.
His Preference
“Of the 3 Bursons, in this amplifier and with these headphones, the V7 Vivid was my preference.”
Verdict
He found the differences genuine and recommends trying the op amps for yourself, ideally from a seller that allows returns, since results depend on your system and taste.
