Hi-Fi News put a pair of these compact mono power amplifiers in its listening room, between Wilson Audio Alexx Vfx floorstanders. The reviewer says they “looked faintly ridiculous” there, yet “despite the equally ridiculous price differential, they proved rather special, sounding very much ‘up for it’.”
What they heard:
Hi-Fi News also measured 155W into 8 ohms and 275W into 4 ohms, with distortion as low as 0.0014% at 1W.
At only 265 x 85 mm, the V-400 does not take the obvious route of a Class D topology. It uses a Class AB output heavily biased into Class A. It can also be upgraded with substitute PSU conditioning modules and upgraded op-amps.
The verdict from Hi-Fi News: “Small but mighty is a cliché, but one that sums up these compact power amplifiers.”
