Post Info

David of Prime Audio Reviews spent several weeks with the Burson Conductor Stellar Deluxe, supplied by Burson for an honest review, and published both a video and a written review, scoring it 4.5.

Build and Design

He found the thick aluminium chassis with brushed top dense and solid, and liked the copper accents on the knob, buttons and side strips that keep it from looking “like another boring black box”. The Deluxe remote, in matching aluminium and copper, is “one of the nicest remotes I’ve ever seen or held in my life”.

  • Volume knob that doubles as a menu button, a high-contrast display and three small buttons
  • USB-C, coaxial, optical and Bluetooth inputs
  • Balanced XLR and single-ended RCA preamp outputs
  • 6.35mm and 4-pin XLR headphone outputs, plus a microphone input
  • A 4.4mm to XLR adapter in the box

As a Class A design, the chassis gets warm and he recommends giving it plenty of breathing room.

Sound Impressions

He tested it mainly as a headphone amp from his PC over USB, with the Sennheiser HD 650, Meze Audio 105 AER and Grell OAE2, plus sensitive IEMs including the Spiral Ear SE6 Nebula and FiiO FH19.

Bass

It has the classic Burson house sound, “powerful, bold, and wonderfully clear”. The bass reaches deep with real weight and authority yet feels effortless, with a sense of physicality and sub-bass rumble that never sounds bloated.

Clarity and Detail

Detail retrieval is “seriously impressive”, but what he liked most is how natural it sounds: “It doesn’t feel clinical or sterile, it simply peels back the layers in the music and lets everything breathe.”

Staging and Imaging

Busy tracks stay organised with no smearing. He says “holographic imaging” genuinely applies here, with a large, expansive stage and pinpoint imaging that gave some headphones an almost speaker-like openness.

IEMs

In low gain the Stellar switches to its dedicated IEM amplifier, and he heard no background noise or hiss even with his most sensitive in-ears.

Verdict

In the video he calls it “one of the best headphone amplifiers, period, that I’ve ever heard”, and as an all-in-one “probably the best that I’ve heard”. His written verdict: “a superb all-in-one DAC/amp… genuinely impressive and incredibly easy to recommend.”
