Audiophile Heaven reviewed the Standard version of the Burson Playmate 3 on YouTube, with planar headphones and IEMs.

Quiet Enough for IEMs

The reviewer found the Playmate 3 silent and usable with IEMs. The volume curve gives finer control at low levels, which helps with sensitive earphones.

Sound: Wide, Natural and Warm

The Playmate 3 presents a huge, wide soundstage with a natural, slightly warmer tonality.

Build Quality

The solid chassis doubles as a heat sink and helps shield the circuitry from EMI.

Headphones and Rivals

  • Drove the Hifiman Arya Unveiled, Arya Organic, HE1000 Unveiled and HE1000 Stealth
  • Compared with the JDS Labs Element 4 and the Hifiman EF500 and EF600

Verdict

Audiophile Heaven sees the Playmate 3 as a big upgrade over the original Playmate and calls it “fully recommended”.
