James Fiorucci of eCoustics included the Burson Playmate 3 in Best DAC/Amps for Headphones: Editors’ Choice 2025, alongside the Burson Conductor GT4.
eCoustics calls the Playmate 3 “one of the most complete all-in-one desktop solutions in the sub-$600 category”, bringing “serious horsepower and flexibility to a segment usually full of compromises”.
The article highlights the classic Burson chassis, which is solid, attractive and built for easy access to the internals, because the Playmate 3 is ready for op amp rolling. It also notes the broad compatibility, including USB, optical, RCA and a mic input.
In its summary, eCoustics says the Playmate 3 “brings the brand’s trademark muscle and Class A attitude to the party”, and calls it “easily one of the strongest values in the desktop DAC/amp space”.
