In “My Favorite Solid State Amplifiers!? Burson Timekeepers”, New Record Day shares his time with a pair of Burson Timekeeper 3X GT monoblocks. He says the video is not paid for by Burson.
System
He ran the Timekeepers with a Holo Audio Serena DAC over balanced connections.
Sound: Dynamics, Bass and a Wide Stage
- Enormous dynamics and headroom: he “cannot seem to find the ceiling”
- Deep bass, even at low volume, with good midbass texture
- An expressive, open soundstage with width and depth
- Natural, uncoloured vocals
- Realistic cymbals without fatigue, and plenty of air
- “Dead silent” background
Drawbacks
- In a friend’s system with single-ended tube preamps, the amps sounded thin and hyper-detailed and lost bass. He could not reproduce this at home and planned to ask Burson about it.
- The external power supply looks like a “cheesy wall wart”, though he says he does not mind.
Verdict
“Probably my favorite solid state amplifiers that I’ve spent time with, regardless of the price.”
