Couldn’t be happier. Inspired by the performance of my C3XP, I bought the Reference to replace my Focal Arche in my primary system. In an initial A/B test compared to the already stellar C3XP, I was thrilled to verify that the Reference has an even bigger and more improved sound over the Performance. An incredible upgrade to my system. I am also impressed and very appreciative of the communication from Dennis when I had a question about choosing between the gain settings for my headphones. Likewise working with your dealer, Bloom Audio, has been a wonderful experience in every way.
The System
Listening with
- Impedance: 35 Ω
- Sensitivity: 106 dB SPL / 1 mW @ 1 kHz ≈ 120.6 dB/V (calc.)
- Frequency response: 5 Hz – 40 kHz
- Plugs / cables supplied: 3.5 mm cable (1.2 m); 4-pin XLR cable (3 m); 3.5 to 6.35 mm adapter
Matching notes: At 35 Ω and 106 dB/mW, the Focal Stellia is a low-impedance load, and an efficient one: about 0.3 V (2.5 mW, 8.5 mA) for 110 dB SPL (calc.). Burson does not publish a 35 Ω rating for the Soloist; its nearest published rating is 4 W SE into 16 Ω. The Soloist’s 30 Ω headphone output impedance is 1/1.2 of the load. [1] [2] [3]
Burson
- Output power (headphone): 16 Ω 4 W
- Output impedance: 30 Ω (as published)
- Gain: Variable Output Stage (VOS); dB not published
- Inputs: 3x RCA
- Input impedance: 36.5 kΩ
- Outputs: 6.35 mm headphone; RCA pre out
- Other: THD <0.03% @ 30 Ω 1 W; FR ±1 dB 0-50 kHz; 24-step attenuator

Specs from manufacturer data unless a source below says otherwise. “calc.” values are worked out from those figures (V = √(P × R); 110 dB SPL used as a loud reference level). Gear listed without specs is not in our spec library yet.
