Burson Conductor GT4 with Focal Utopia 2022

Post Info

I recently upgraded from the Conductor 3XGT to the GT4 Deluxe (with the Fusion Core on the way), and the difference is truly remarkable! Within just half an hour of listening to my reference tracks, I was immediately struck by the wider soundstage and the noticeable reduction in sibilance and high-frequency harshness, especially when compared to the already impressive 3XGT.

The clarity and depth of the sound are exceptional, and I’m confident that the performance will continue to enhance as the unit undergoes burn-in. I’m also eagerly anticipating the arrival of the Fusion Core, which I believe will elevate the audio experience even further. Overall, this upgrade has already exceeded my expectations!

The System

Listening with

Focal Utopia 2022 · Headphones: open-back, dynamic (40 mm beryllium M-dome), circumaural
  • Impedance: 80 Ω
  • Sensitivity: 104 dB SPL / 1 mW @ 1 kHz ≈ 115.0 dB/V (calc.)
  • Frequency response: 5 Hz – 50 kHz (catalogue); product page 5 Hz – 23 kHz (±3 dB)
  • Plugs / cables supplied: 3.5 mm cable (1.5 m) and 4-pin XLR cable (3 m), both with Lemo connectors; 3.5 to 6.35 mm adapter

Matching notes: At 80 Ω and 104 dB/mW, the Utopia 2022 is a low-impedance load, and an efficient one: about 0.56 V (4 mW, 7.1 mA) for 110 dB SPL (calc.). Burson does not publish a 80 Ω rating for the Conductor GT4. Its 32 Ω and 100 Ω ratings (10 W XLR / 5 W SE; 5 W XLR / 2.5 W SE) fall either side of it. The Conductor GT4’s 0.5 Ω headphone output impedance is 1/160 of the load. [1] [2] [3] [4]
