A thoughtful gift from France

A few weeks ago a parcel arrived from France. Inside were INERTA cables and equipment feet from our long-time friend Michel Wolf of Druide Audio Composite. Michel has spent years working on one problem: vibration. His INERTA products are designed to absorb vibrations of all origins so that more of the musical information comes through. That means micro-detail, spatial presentation and musicality. Michel has also patented the technology.

How we listened

We are a small team of audio enthusiasts in Melbourne, so naturally we connected the cables straight into one of our favourite systems: the Conductor Stellar paired with the Soloist Prime. We listened through the headphones we use every day, played the music we know best, and gave everything time to settle in. Druide Audio recommends a running-in period of around 5 to 7 days for best results.

We also fitted the INERTA feet under our chassis. Michel suggests placing them directly against the cabinet, close to the corners, where their effect is most noticeable.

What we heard

Put simply, we were impressed. With INERTA in the chain, the Stellar and Soloist Prime combination delivered what we can only describe as reference-class performance. The music sounded more natural and more fully formed, and it was easy to forget about the equipment and simply enjoy the recording.

The first thing that struck us was the transparency. It felt as if a fine veil had been lifted, and the background became darker and quieter, so that micro-details and the natural decay of notes emerged effortlessly. The soundstage opened up in every direction, with real width and depth, and each instrument and voice sat precisely in its own space with pinpoint imaging. Bass was tighter and more textured, the mids carried rich tone and body, and the treble shimmered with air and sweetness, never harshness. Above all, the music flowed with a wonderful sense of ease and emotion. It was the kind of listening that keeps you reaching for just one more track.

The build quality impressed us just as much. These are substantial, beautifully finished cables, and our team loved one clever detail: they are magnetic. They hold to metal surfaces or to each other, which keeps a large cable run neat and tidy on the desk.

Thank you, Michel

A big thank you to Michel for his generosity, his passion and his long support of Burson. It’s always a pleasure to see what happens when a craftsman this dedicated meets our gear. We’ll keep testing INERTA as our upcoming projects come to life, and we’ll share more impressions when we do.
