Watch: Tone Deaf Monk reviews the Fusion Core
Not a typical power supply
He notes that Burson “just wanted to address some inherent problems associated with mainstream designed units”, and that the Fusion Core “certainly doesn’t feel like one and it certainly doesn’t look like one”. He likes the look too: “their design language looks incredibly wicked and it matches up with the Burson Conductor Stellar”.
What he heard
Swapping between his old wall power supply and the Fusion Core, the biggest difference was “how much smoother the sound was”. In his own summary:
- Smoother sound: “A noticeable improvement in overall smoothness and refinement.”
- Improved soundstage: “Greater dimensionality and a more immersive presentation.”
- Tighter bass: “Better control and definition in the low frequencies.”
- Blacker background: “With my MEST Fortune IEMs, quieter passages revealed finer background details.”
As he puts it: “bass got tighter and more control. I like that. I like my punchy bass.”
His one niggle
His only niggle is the long power cable to the amplifier, which exits from the front. He would have liked a shorter and a longer cable in the box.
Conclusion
Having never heard a clear difference from power supply swaps before, he found the Fusion Core “more than I thought it was going to do”, concluding: “I can honestly say that I think this was a worthy upgrade.”
